A Thing Called Adjustment Disorder.

With Christ, You Bounce Back and Overcome Every Challenge

How to remain firm, rooted in His presence and in His Word, even in the hardest seasons

We live in a world full of challenges, unexpected situations, emotional burdens, heavy responsibilities, and battles that are not always visible. Sometimes we believe that because we love God and walk with Him, we will not face difficulties. But the truth is this: with Christ, we are not exempt from trials, but we are fully equipped to overcome them by faith.

With Him, we don’t just endure, we bounce back. We rise, we learn, we grow, and we move forward strengthened.

Rooted in Christ, steady in the middle of the storm

The key is not our own strength, but where we are rooted. When our lives are planted in Christ and in His Word, even when strong winds come, we are not uprooted.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith…”

(Colossians 2:6–7)

Being rooted means our source is not our emotions, circumstances, or physical energy, but the presence of God.

My recent experience: Unexpected challenges

I work as a support worker for almost 6 years with individuals who live with disabilities in different areas, especially mental health. A few months ago, I accepted a new position that came with many challenges and difficult situations to manage. I did it with the best intentions: I prayed, sought God, and accepted the position, wanting to give my very best.

Every day I went to work praying, asking the Lord for direction and strength. Those who work with people struggling with mental health know how emotionally demanding and exhausting this work can be.

After three months in this position, I began to notice changes in myself:

  • Profound exhaustion without intense physical activity

  • A constant desire to sleep

  • Discouragement just at the thought of going to work

  • Sadness

  • Changes in my character and emotional responses

  • Loss of enthusiasm for things I once enjoyed

Yet I never stopped praying. I never stopped seeking God. My relationship with the Lord did not weaken, because I have learned something essential: the one thing I cannot afford to lose is my spiritual nourishment and my intimacy with God. But I started feeling down.

Over time, I learned that what I was experiencing had a name: Adjustment disorder or Adjustment Syndrome. What is that I asked.

What is Adjustment Disorder?

This syndrome occurs when a person is exposed for a prolonged period of time to high levels of emotional, mental, or spiritual stress. The body and mind remain in a constant state of alert until they eventually become exhausted.

It does not appear overnight. It develops gradually, especially in people who are responsible, deeply committed, compassionate, and constantly caring for others.

Some common symptoms may include:

  • Extreme fatigue with no apparent physical cause

  • Excessive need for sleep

  • Loss of motivation or enthusiasm

  • Persistent sadness or a sense of emptiness

  • Irritability or changes in mood and character

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed

Recognizing these symptoms is not a lack of faith. It is wisdom.

God’s grace and power also call us to care for ourselves

Jesus has already given us the victory. He conquered on the cross, and that victory is ours. But walking in victory also means listening to the Holy Spirit when He tells us to rest, to set boundaries, and to take care of ourselves.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…?”

(1 Corinthians 6:19)

God is deeply interested in our complete well-being—spirit, soul, and body. He does not expect us to keep giving when we are empty.

Thank God I am bouncing back, and the best for me is to hear one of the people who treated me saying: Joselyn, in my own experience, the people who best bounce back and sooner are the people who have faith. (Since day one, I have shared with him about my faith in God and my Community of faith.) Praise God.

I am raising awareness.

A word for those who care for others and serve the Lord

This message is especially for those who:

  • Constantly care for others.

  • Work in helping professions, health, or support services.an act of

  • Are actively involved in ministry

  • Carry emotional burdens that belong to others

Serving is a privilege, but we were not created to do it disconnected from rest.

Even Jesus withdrew to pray and to rest.

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

(Mark 6:31)

Taking time to disconnect is not abandoning your calling; it is an act of obedience to God.

With Christ, we bounce back.

Yes, these things can happen to people of faith. But here is the difference: with Jesus, we do not stay on the ground.

With Him, we bounce back.

With Him, we learn.

With Him, we heal.

With Him, we move forward.

.

If you recognize these symptoms today, pause. Pray. Listen to yourself. Seek support. Take the time you need. And above all, stay connected to God, because He is the One who restores.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing… He restores my soul.”

(Psalm 23:1,3)

God is not only interested in what you do for Him. He is deeply interested in you. I pray for you and thank you for those who also pray for my family and me.

Thank you, Jesus, for your life, light and health.

I pray for everyone reading this blog. Take care of yourself. I am doing the same. 😊

In Christ, even after exhaustion, there is always restoration...
